Who We Are?
We are a weight loss and wellness support and resource company based in Kansas. We were founded on November 21st, 2003.
Why the name Kansans and Friends in Weight Loss? Well, I was trying to find a support group located in Kansas when The Ultimate Weight Loss Challenge began on the Dr. Phil Show. This was back in 2003 and there were plenty of people looking for support in my area. Unfortunately no one was really taking the reins and getting a group going.
I initially started a group called NEKS Area Weight Loss and then as membership grew the name needed to be changed. After a process and voting, it became Kansans and Friends in Weight Loss. It was important for me to keep the Kansan connection in the name.
What qualifies me to provide weight loss and wellness support as well as providing a public health service?
1.One year co-editorial experience writing for an online weight loss challenge newsletter, The Challenger
2. A long history of emotional eating issues due to traumatic childhood
3. Physical and medicinal issues deter me from using more main stream weight loss methods
4. I’m the parent of a child with special needs who will have his own struggles with being able to do normal exercise
5. Family History of cancer, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol
6. Due to my commitment to go to school I have access to any number of resources at any time for anything related to health
7. And I live in the 26th fattest state in the union
